Attention: United States Senators

It has come to my attention that legislation, known as the Cybersecurity Act of 2009

(S 773 and S 778), sponsored by Senator John Rockefeller (W.VA-D) and co-sponsored by Senator Olympia Snowe (ME-R) has been introduced in the Senate.

This legislation would give the government direct and complete access to the personal, financial, and medical records of every internet user, public and private. Not only is this a blatant invasion of the privacy of every American citizen, it is also an attack against the First Amendment of the United States Constitution—the document you are sworn to uphold and protect.

In addition, the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 will afford the president the power to totally shut down internet service, both public and private, in the event of a “cyberemergency”—of which the meaning and need of such an emergency is very vague.

This legislation is a direct contradiction of the President’s and the Democratic Congress’s stand against such intrusion of privacy of the former administration. It is my understanding that the Obama Administration is trying to avoid making the same mistakes and to avoid any similarities to the Bush Administration. This legislation would put the Obama Administration on the very same level!

Please protect every citizen’s right to privacy and to free access of the internet, including your own! I urge you to vote NO on the Cyberspace Security Act of 2009!
